Introduction
Welcome to ‘golfbiomechanics.net’!
Yesterday our new book ‘The Physics & Biomechanics of Golf‘ launched worldwide on Amazon and will be available in book stores & libraries in the next few weeks. In the United Kingdom you can also order the book here, direct from us at a slightly reduced price (if you want to leave a comment in the relevant field on the order form, I would be happy to leave a note and / or sign if that ‘floats your boat’!).
My aim in writing the book was to aggregate the myriad of instruction methodology out there, with established Science, looking at a cross section of relevant academic research into our sport. Techniques such as biomechanical modelling and force plate analysis are not widely used in golf instruiction, particularly here in the United Kingdom. While launch monitors may provide an experienced coach with all the data they require, it is my belief that there is often a void between coaching instruction and the ‘learners’ understanding and how to physically appropriate swing changes.
By consideration and the application of techniques such as physiological awareness (proprioception) and by imparting a base understanding of the forces and physics involved, I believe this process becomes much, much easier, even intuitive. With an insight into the physiological underpinnings of muscle activation for example, and how the central nervous system monitors such processes, affords us a means by which to assess this instruction also.
This has been a year long endeavour, which was certainly not my intent at the outset. Over the next year I have some ideas how this site might grow to offer further insight into the science behind our sport and provide the means by which this may improve our games. I very much look forward to this and to hopefully playing & practicing a little more frequently myself in 2025!
Thankyou for taking the time to look around and please also look us up and subscribe on here and all the usual platforms for future updates, content and news.
All the best.

Highly recommend this book. As a complete novice golfer this resonated with me as a secondary science teacher. A great read, thank you.
